The free social video network YouTube has become a sensational hit when it first started and from then on and even up to the time of its acquisition by Google, the popularity of the social video network website has not looked back. YouTube is considered to be one of the many avenues where people or more particularly internet users can display or showcase their video and which could be watched by many people all around the globe. Due to it’s nature of being a free service YouTube has been utilised by many internet users, some have even become popular because of this, the term internet star or internet celebrity was coined after the internet users who became popular through this social video network. However, since it is a free service the websites’ ability to generate income for the company that acquired it, that is Google, has been doubted by many. This concept will soon be removed and hopefully as well as the cloud of doubt surrounding the ability of YouTube to generate income, this is because of the fact that the social video network has posted gains and increase in its income during the previous months. This can be attributed from the fact that the social video network has incorporated new advertising formats among this is the insertion of commercials before the start of an actual video, aside from this YouTube has also entered into agreement with several giant companies who will avail the services being offered by the social video network and one of such company who entered into agreement was Walt Disney Inc.
These efforts being implemented by YouTube does not only aim to acquire financial gains but also for the social video network to become a large factor in the field of online advertising and marketing which could provide a huge driving force to its partners and advertisers alike while the users are also benefitting from such gains.
