Every now and then, we hear a lot of new search engines appear in the web and looking for a place in the market and aspire to become one of the “big ones”.
These search engines include Wikia search, Oparla, Cuil & Searchme, and Wolfram Alpha. The search engine Oparla looks to pay users when they search. Ever since the posts of the new search engines, we really haven’t seen some publicity to market these engines.
We’ll give you a quick look on these search engines here.
The search engine Cuill seemed to have a potential. Although the paid ads appeared to be served by Google which is a bit surprising because we thought that they may want to establish their own advertising platform to get benefits from. About the Searchme search engine, well, it would let you be redirected to Google.
The Wikia search engine is now redirecting it to Wikia Answers. This is from further investigation on the Wikipedia that seems to have ended its journey for this engine and it was only last May of this current year. Wolfram Alpha still seems to be going strong. Some say that as it was trying to load some ads, some browser tend to crash. Oparla is still going but we are not quite sure of the “getting paid by surfing” part as it was mentioned at the “about us” page.
Oparla is still going, although is a relative newcomer to the market – not quite sure how you get paid from surfing on this engine though, which is mentioned on it’s about us page.
One search engine that has a potential is named Tazoodle. It would be quite interesting if it could carve out a niche in the search market.Still it would be unlikely because of increasing competiotions in the market.
