Search Engine Optimisation

Having a baby is a very tedious task and that task starts from researching on what to name your baby. This goes the same with your website, starting a pet project or even a full-scale e-commerce business will require you to do the tedious task on what to call your website. This is a tedious task as most of your internet marketing strategies will depend on it. Having a good website name or to be more specific a domain name will be the starting point of your Search engine optimisation strategies that is why naming your domain is a very important aspect of website development and Search engine optimisation. In order to choose a good domain name it is prudent for us to identify what are the different factors that search engines are looking for in a domain name. First, we have to take into consideration that search engines are tightening up security on spam websites as these types of websites has proliferated over the years and in order to combat this search engines has taken much consideration on a websites’ domain name and the other properties that comes along with it. For example, search engines are adamant in indexing websites that has only registered their domain name for a month  or up to six months as the rationale is that if the user indeed has plans to keep the domain name for a long time then he or she should register it for at least a year but if such domain will have the nature of a spam site then it will be registered for several months as the person who registered it knows that it will be banned anyway. Second aspect is the domain’s age, if the domain is already existing for years then it is a reliable website as compared to a newly registered domain. This is why search engines heavily favors websites with several years of domain age as the longer the domain is existing the more reliable the website is.

So how do we choose the most efficient domain name? In order to have a domain name that will work to your advantage especially in the field of Search engine optimisation first thing that you have to consider is that you have to keep the domain name concise. It means that the domain name should be short but meaningful as well, this is because it allows your visitors to easily remember your domain name or your URL for that matter. Second it would also be best if your domain name is using general words instead of specific words as this will help target a larger market due to the fact that search engine users search through using general terminologies or general words instead of specific ones.
The domain name is an important and integral part of both your website and your SEO campaign that is why you have to research and observe general rules in domain naming in order for you to give your website the best domain name.
